What makes Nomad Humans different: in-house tech and real community
There are two ways to run housing for nomads: rent out roofs with modems, or build a place where remote life actually works. The difference isn’t in the photos — it’s in what happens after you book. This post is the long answer to a question we get often: what’s actually different about Nomad Humans?
Spoiler with obvious bias (we’re us): three things. Technology we build in-house, community with its own calendar, and a team that lives here and never stops improving the system.
1. The technology: built in-house, for this
We don’t run generic hotel software — what we needed didn’t exist, so we’ve been building it ourselves. Today that shows in concrete things:
- Direct online booking with real-time availability at ~15% less than Airbnb or Booking — the commission we don’t pay the platforms gets passed to you, no promo code, no fine print.
- Guest portal: your stay lives on your phone. The security deposit is a digital card hold (never cash held hostage — it releases on its own), electricity usage is transparent with real readings, and extra services are ordered and paid online.
- Frictionless scooters: online payment, and if you want more days you extend the rental from your phone — no front desk.
- Guest account with perks: partner-network discounts (gyms, restaurants, beach clubs) are redeemed from your own login.
- Direct WhatsApp support: you ask, and someone who knows your booking, your apartment and your context answers.
Every one of these pieces exists because a guest needed it and the team built it. That cycle has never stopped — whatever you use today will be better in three months.
2. The community: on a calendar, not by accident
“Community” is the most worn-out word in coliving marketing. Our version is verifiable: a real weekly calendar — dinners, cowork sessions, cenote trips, music. The live agenda is on the community page and it’s built around what the people in the house actually want to do.
The compound effect is what we love: cowork tables here have produced joint projects, new clients and friendships that keep traveling together. With 40+ million nomads moving around the world, the differentiator is no longer the scenery — it’s who you share it with.
And community extends beyond the building: the Tulum guide — 40+ places verified door by door, with guest discounts — is our way of making the whole neighborhood part of the experience.
3. The team: lives here and keeps building
No call center, no franchise. We’re a small team living in La Veleta: the people who check you in, answer the WhatsApp, write this blog and code the portal are the same people you’ll run into at the pool. When something breaks, it’s seen by someone who lives five blocks away.
The numbers that leaves behind: 4.9/5 on Google Maps, 8.9/10 on Booking, 4.8/5 on Airbnb — over 1,700 accumulated host reviews across all properties. Those aren’t vanity metrics: they’re years of fixing things fast, in person.
The short version
If you’re after a cheap room and nothing else, Tulum has plenty of options (we even recommend some in our guide). If you want your remote life — internet, payments, community, surprises — held up by a system someone improves every single week, this is what we’re building. Come try it and tell us what’s missing: we mean it, that’s how this grows.
